About Annotated

Annotated.nl is a publishing venture by Abacus Legal. The work it does — bundling regulation text with the apparatus that gives it operational meaning — was envisaged thirty years ago by its editor as a student, and was technically out of reach then.

Finally, thirty years later, it is possible to build the content and legal tools I envisaged as a student. Now delivered with the benefit of three decades’ experience.

The first vehicle was wetten.nu in the late 1990s, which made Dutch legal texts freely accessible and led to a landmark case on that right. The venture grew, eventually entered bankruptcy, and the editor spent the intervening years in adjacent practice — at a systems integrator, at a boutique IT firm, and in-house at a trading firm. The questions never closed.

Annotated is the return — this time as a paid publication, because the work earns its keep, and because depth and bundling are not free to produce.

Abacus Legal is an eenmanszaak — a Dutch sole-proprietor publishing operation, KvK 89289552. It is not an advocatenkantoor. We do not litigate; we publish.

Pavle Bojkovski is a jurist — a legal practitioner — based in Amsterdam. He is not an advocaat; the work of an annotated edition is editorial, not advisory, and we are careful with the terminology.
